Mighty Lenny Leopard Safari Dog Toy by VIP Products

Durability Rating: [Rating:2/5]

Earlier this week, we reviewed the Mighty Ball also by VIP Products, which is a big hit here at our house.  This toy, the Mighty Lenny Leopard Safari Dog Toy, unfortunately, has not been so lucky.  Even though VIP Products rates this toy as a 9 on their Dura-Scale, it didn’t last more than a day here.  Before we knew it, there was stuffing everywhere, and what a lot of stuffing there was!

Mighty Lenny Leopard... not so mighty

This is the second disappointment in the Safari series.  We also tried the Polar Bear stuffie back in November, and were equally disappointed.  That toy got returned to the store the next day, but this toy, we kept since it was part of the Dog Toy Tester program.

Mighty Balls by VIP Products

Another awesome toy from our friends at VIP Products. The Mighty Ball has been in the toy bucket for several months now and it’s held up remarkably well over the duration.  No signs of wear on it, and it gets a lot of play. The Mighty Ball is a fleece covered rubbery ball that squeaks, about 6″ in diameter.  The ball is just the right size — large enough so that it doesn’t get lost under furniture, works well as a kick ball, but small enough to pick up and carry around.  It’s also very flexible and soft on the mouth.

Ruff Wear Hydro Plane

I was hoping to hold off doing this review until summer. After all the Ruff Wear Hydro Plane is a soft disc that is (according to Ruff Wear’s website) “built for dogs that love to play fetch in or around water”.  Cassie and Moxie got this toy for Christmas, a present from my sister in Seattle and her two Shiloh Shepherds.  Each dog got one.  Honestly, the toy is so lightweight, I was afraid the dogs would destroy it before spring, so we put one toy away for pool use, and kept one out for the dogs to play with in the house.

Ruff Dawg K-9 Flyer

It’s back!  Last week, I started to post about our favorite winter toy, the Ruff Dawg K-9 Flyer.  Unfortunately, before I had a chance to take many pictures, the toy went missing!  We eventually found it, trapped under the deck, where I presumed it would stay until the snow melts, sometime in July by the looks of things here in Boston.

Our favorite mystery winter toy

Last night, I dreamed it was spring. Green, lush, glorious spring. I awoke and looked out the window, and everything was so green. It was like a miracle! Or a dream!  I woke up, and said to my husband, “I dreamed it was spring!” and he laughed. Then I looked out the window and it was spring! The yard was green and full of animals passing by in procession: lions, bears, bear cubs, foxes… so wonderful.  So weird.

Then I really woke up. Dogs pouncing on the bed to wake me, sticking their cold nose in my face, insisting on lying on top of me. Back to reality, back to winter. Blech.  Need coffee.

I really shouldn’t live in Boston. I know that now. I was born here, it’s home. Eight months out of the year, I love it here. This is not one of those months. The winter is dragging on and I’m done with it. Of course I’m not alone. Everybody is sick of winter and ready for spring.  Stupid, lying groundhog! Read more
