Earlier this week, we reviewed the Mighty Ball also by VIP Products, which is a big hit here at our house. This toy, the Mighty Lenny Leopard Safari Dog Toy, unfortunately, has not been so lucky. Even though VIP Products rates this toy as a 9 on their Dura-Scale, it didn’t last more than a day here. Before we knew it, there was stuffing everywhere, and what a lot of stuffing there was!
This is the second disappointment in the Safari series. We also tried the Polar Bear stuffie back in November, and were equally disappointed. That toy got returned to the store the next day, but this toy, we kept since it was part of the Dog Toy Tester program.

Another awesome toy from our friends at VIP Products. The Mighty Ball has been in the toy bucket for several months now and it’s held up remarkably well over the duration. No signs of wear on it, and it gets a lot of play.
The Mighty Ball is a fleece covered rubbery ball that squeaks, about 6″ in diameter. The ball is just the right size — large enough so that it doesn’t get lost under furniture, works well as a kick ball, but small enough to pick up and carry around. It’s also very flexible and soft on the mouth. Moxie likes to catch it with her paws and mouth while showing off her amazing talent for mid-air acrobatics. Cassie likes to catch it and then make it squeak and squeak and squeak till it drives us crazy and we toss it again, hoping Moxie will get it for a while. The toy’s round shape doesn’t make it a good tug or chew toy, which might account for its long wear.
The fleece does get a bit wet from all the mouthing, but not as much as a tennis ball or plain rubber ball. We’ve used this toy strictly as an indoor toy to keep it clean. The company states the toy does float if you want it for a pool toy. We’ll keep it inside though, since it’s soft and great for indoor play without worrying too much about knocking things about. Dr. Oz is one of my morning rituals. I love to have my coffee with Dr. Oz, while the dogs and I get some play and snuggle time before work. Earlier this week, very oddly, one of his guests was the psychic medium, John Edward. Did some of you see this show? I found it fascinating that he would pick people out from the audience based on the “messages” he was getting from the great beyond and pass along messages to them.
I’m sure a lot of people are skeptical about this sort of thing. I like to keep an open mind. I find it comforting, as I’m sure the people in the audience did too, that our loved ones are still with us in spirit, have crossed over safely, and send assurances that we will see each other again one day.
He said something I will never forget. He said, “She has her dog with her.”
But, what does this have to do with dogs? Well, at one point in the show, John Edward spoke to a woman, saying her mother was “here”. He passed along some specific messages from the mother, which I’ve forgotten. But then he said something I will never forget. He said, “She has her dog with her.” The daughter smiled through her tears. Obviously her mom loved her dog very much, and she was glad they were together again in the afterlife. Read more
